CBP Announces Increase In Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF)

What Is MPF?

The Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) is a user fee that the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) charges in addition to US Customs Duty and is set at 0.3464% of the entered value of the shipment. This base rate will not be changing. However, this user fee carries a minimum and maximum amount depending on the entered value of the shipment, which will be changing.

Effective October 1, 2022 those rates will be changing as outlined below:

  • Minimum MPF on informal entries (shipments valued under $2500 USD) will increase from $2.22 to $2.37.
  • Minimum MPF on formal entries (shipments valued over $2500 USD) will increase from $27.75 to $29.66.
  • Maximum MPF on a formal entry will increase from $538.40 to $575.35.
