US To End De Minimis Exemptions August 29th

August 1, 2025

In an announcement made on July 30, 2025, the US Government announced its intention to end the de minimis exemption effective August 29, 2025, for all countries.

This is an advancement and expansion on the May executive order that saw the de minimis rule terminated for shipments specifically from China and Hong Kong. Beyond that date, low-value shipments will still be allowed, but will be expected to pay duties as per typical shipments - either via an informal (Type 11) or formal (Type 01) entry.

All goods shipped through the US Postal Service will have two potential outcomes:

  1. They will pay an ad valorem duty based on the country of origin
  2. They will pay a specific duty ranging from $80 to $200 per item.

The announcement stated that after six months, all shipments will be calculated as ad valorem duties.
