CBP has recently released updated guidance set to go into effect on June 28th, 2025, regarding the imports of aluminum in which the importer does not know the country of smelt and/or cast. Under this new guidance, aluminum importers must now report “unknown” instead of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) code for the unknown smelt and cast country.
Importers reporting ‘unknown’ in this way must use HTS 9903.85.67 or 9903.85.68, as applicable, and will be assessed the 200% Section 232 duties on imports of aluminum from Russia.
