Beginning as early as January 1, 2024, importers of goods from China to the US may face higher tariffs.
This increase is a result of potentially hundreds of Section 301 tariff exclusions expiring on December 31, 2023. This list of exclusions, which currently includes any product meeting certain HTSUS numbers and product descriptions - regardless of importer-filed exclusion requests, has over 300 articles, which include medical care products, machine parts, motors, and filters, to name just a few of the complete list.
US Trade Representative Katherine Tai has commented that changes to Section 301 and the full list of current import tariffs from China currently under review by the US government are possible, including, potentially, removals, additions, and a new exclusion process.
